Insurers would want you to tell them what it would takes to rebuild your home. How would you do that?

Insurers wouldn’t want a retail value of your property because they would have to pay for land and location of the property as well as repair it in the event of a claim. But in the case of rebuild value, the insurer only repairs the house.

It would cost you some money (a couple of hundreds) to find a chartered surveyor who would measure your home and give you an accurate rebuild value.

Rebuild calculators could be used instead if the cost of hiring a surveyor is a bit too much for you.

You can find rebuild calculators online and they are free of charge. These calculators do come with draw backs to make sure you are well insured.

When you use the rebuild calculators to measure the external floors, you will get an accurate assessment.

When calculating, always begin with the ground floor and use the outside wall measurement of the length and width, and then calculate the figures together. You might get the same result for the upstairs. This will give you an accurate measurement.

You would be asked a couple of questions in addition, to find out if your home has any dangerous material or any special features.

Do not forget to get and compare as many free quotes as you can if you really want to enjoy very low rates. This is one very effective way of both getting very low rates and getting an insurer you can come to trust.
